Depression, a mental disorder with multiple different types of it with each having their own duration. The different types of depression goes as follows; major depression, persistent depressive disorder, perinatal depression seasonal affective disorder, and psychotic depression, and all effect a person differently. To start, major depression is one that affects the person by interfering with the person's daily routine and/or needs such as eating, working, or sleeping. This will cause the person to be in a, somewhat, constant state of sadness which can be seen and diagnosed within a couple of weeks, and this normally occurs once in a person's lifetime, but people tend to have several in a lifetime. Another, is the presistent depressive disorder which is acts the same way as major depression, but it will last up to two years.
Although, there are some types of depression that are different as they develop due to certain conditions in a person or environment. Perinatal depression is a great example of this as it only happens to women during pregnancy or after delivery which is commonly known as postpartum depression. This type of depression often has the same effects as someone with major depression. Another, example is seasonal affective disorder which comes and goes during certain seasons. A majority of the time it lasts from late fall or early winter to spring or summer. The final one is psychotic depression where it occurs when someone has severe depression and is under some type of psychosis, which goes under having delusions or hallucinations.
Now, depression can develop by multiple factors. It can be deveolped by a combination of psychological, environmental, and gentetic factors. It can also occur when a person has a serious illnes (cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and Parkinson's disease) which makes these conditions worse. Most of the time depression looks different in everybody by age group and gender. Men will be more aggressive, and are easier to get mad. Where as women, depression occurs more often in women than men which often leads then to feel more sad, or guilty. Older adults will have less than obvious symptoms of depression, but they will admit to being sad, and most of the time it is due to a medical condition. Children are more likely to cling to a parent, worry that the parent may die, or refuse to go to school. Teenagers are more irritable which may lead to eating disorders, anxiety, or the use of drugs.
