College and Career Plans

Career Goals

Math is my favorite subject, and I also do well in art. I am thinking of majoring in computer science. More specifically, I plan to major in software engineering. A software engineer designs, develops, and maintains software systems. If software engineering does not work out, I plan to pursue being a household mechanic.

I could get a software engineering degree at San Jose State or California Polytechnic State. These colleges have a program in software engineering, which makes them a good choice. I am currently a junior in high school, and I am in the process of meeting the requirements for graduation. For instance, I have already completed the community service hours requirement.

College Plans

I don’t plan to go to community college, because not many community colleges have software engineering as a major. I have passed AP chinese and computer science principles, and am currently taking AP calculus AB and AP US History as a junior in high school. I may have a better chance at getting into challenging computer courses at a university.

I know how I will pay for college. I can afford to pay for school and living expenses. However, I will work towards receiving scholarships so that tuition and expenses will be more manageable. I might be able to work while attending college. I intend to get some work experience before my first day of college. I might be able to restock inventory or be a cashier for a retail store.
