Career Goals

Ever since I was little I have always enjoyed playing around with computers and their settings, figuring out how things work and sometimes trying to test the limits of different computer programs. That is why, after some research, I am considering becoming a software quality assurance engineer.

Other than becoming a software quality assurance engineer, I am also considering becoming a UI designer. I have always had an interest in design and how it has evolved over the years. I also enjoy seeing the animation and the aesthetics of certain apps, so it would be interesting to be the creator of my own ideal UI.

College Plans

After some research, I learned that you should have some experience as an office assistant, with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science related majors if you want to be a software quality assurance tester. Many colleges in California offer computer science related majors, so I would like to apply to several of the UCs including LA, Berkeley, and Irvine, with some CSUs as a backup plan, like East Bay or San Jose State. I would also need to get some experience in IT work and as a technical assistant while I am in college.

In order to become a UI designer, I need the proper education first and foremost. I would need a degree in UX or UI design. Out of the colleges that offer a degree in those areas, UC Davis, along with UCLA, San Jose State, and CSU Fresno, are the ones that stand out most to me. While I’m in those colleges, building a portfolio of all of my designs would be beneficial to after I graduate to show potential employers.
