College and Career Plans

Career Goals
Art is one of my favorite subjects. This year, I’m taking two art classes, digital art and painting, at my high school. I want to work in the art field, but I don’t want to put myself in a career that makes a low salary. The career I’m interested in is graphic design. Graphic designers make a decent salary, and the job itself sounds like a lot of fun.
Another career choice I’m interested in is interior design. Interior design allows one to play around with aesthetics, colors, and space. I have a lot of appreciation for architectural designing videos. I tried to take an architectural design class this year, but the class was not being taught anymore, sadly. Designing indoor spaces interests me a lot, and if the first career doesn’t do it for me, I’ll try pursuing for interior design!
Career Plans
In order to pursue the graphic design career, I need an educational plan. First, I will apply to Mission College. There are many courses in graphic design that I can get out of the way before transferring to San Jose State University, which has a decent department of design. I plan on majoring in graphic design, obviously. The cost of tuition in SJSU is around $7,800, and I can commute from home to the college, which saves me money. To pay it all off, I can work at my parents’ restaurant as a dishwasher, or I can work in retail like Target.
I would go to Cal State Long Beach to pursue interior design. The program there looks really great. The cost of tuition is about $6,800. Adding a place to stay at Long Beach, it’ll be costly. Again, I will try to pay it off by doing part-time jobs. I probably will have to pay with loans from my parents. Afterwards, I can repay them back.
